About Ray's Notes
This site is consecrated to Our Lady of Sorrows, and dedicated to my patron saint, St. Gregory Nazianzen, also known as the Theologian.
"Gregory, bishop of Nazianzen, a most eloquent man, and my instructor in the Scriptures..." (De Viris Illustribus, St. Jerome)
I have always wanted to make a blog, but for the most part I have no idea what to write about. Then a couple of years ago, I converted to the Catholic faith, and during my conversion process, I wrote lots of notes and reflections on theology and things related to it. Never really thought about making them public, but then I saw a friend's site (https://port19.xyz/), then suddenly that old desire of making a blog came back, and I thought to myself, well, now I have something to write about!
Now to explain the contents of this site....
I will mostly write about things of my faith here, and they will mostly focus on typology. To quote from Wikipedia:
"Typology in Christian theology and biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship of the Old Testament to the New Testament. Events, persons or statements in the Old Testament are seen as types prefiguring or superseded by antitypes, events or aspects of Christ or his revelation described in the New Testament. For example, Jonah may be seen as the type of Christ in that he emerged from the fish's belly and thus appeared to rise from death."
I will also post my personal notes and reflections on the bible, I plan on having atleast one for every book in the bible.
All bible quotes in this site will use the Douay Rheims translation, a personal favorite of mine, although it may be too archaic for some people..
Maybe in the future I will write about non faith topics, but for now this is it.
Do I hope for an audience? Not really. I thought about it, then reached the conclusion that even if no one reads it, having a public archive for my notes and reflections sounds cool enough. I am also inspired by St. Carlo Acutis.
But, just in case someone actually reads my stuff, I want to deliver a really important note: What I write here may or may not contain errors, so if you are unsure or disagree with me, feel free to do your own research, I put the references I use in all of my posts, then contact me and correct me! Feel free to ask any questions as well.
"Yet may my only honour be that which is in God, and may my pilgrimage and my home be in Christ Jesus our Lord, to Whom, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, be glory forever. Amen." (Oration 8, St. Gregory Nazianzen)
